The New Bentley Continental GT Speed Will Happily Drift On Demand

Written by admin

Bentley has invited UK media for a first go in their new Continental GT Speed at Silverstone, releasing at the same time all the technical details of the “most dynamic road-going Bentley ever made” and a new image gallery.

In addition to packing more firepower, the new Continental GT Speed is the first to feature a rear-steering system, as well as the first Bentley with a rear electronically-controlled limited-slip differential.

The result, according to Bentley, is not only a more agile super GT but one that can actually drift itself out of a corner. The newly calibrated Sport drive mode limits the available to the front axle to 28 percent and almost shuts off the counter-oversteer torque applied in the Comfort and Bentley drive modes.

In addition, the new Continental GT Speed can be optioned with the largest car brakes in the world, featuring 440 mm carbon discs at the front with giant 10-piston calipers. Bentley says that their latest-generation carbon brakes save 77 lbs (35 kg) of unsprung mass and are exceptionally fade resistant.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find Bentley’s familiar twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine, which has been upgraded to 650 HP (659 PS), up from the regular model’s 626 HP (635 PS). Torque remains the same, rated at a colossal 664 lb-ft (900 Nm). Moreover, the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission can change gears in half the time of the standard Conti GT when in Sport mode.

As a result, the new Continental GT Speed can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds) and reach a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h).

Audi S8 And Bentley Flying Spur Do Donuts, Drag Race Each Other

Written by admin

It is highly unusual to see flagship limos such as the Audi S8 and Bentley Flying Spur warm up their tires by doing donuts before engaging in a series of races, but that’s exactly what they did here.

The fourth-gen A8 is based on the MLB Evo platform, which is also used in the Lamborghini Urus and Volkswagen Touareg, to name but two, while the third-gen Flying Spur uses the MSB architecture which it shares with the Continental GT and Porsche Panamera.

With a starting price of £170,000 ($216,595) in the UK, where this video was shot, the Flying Spur is powered by a twin-turbo, 6.0-liter W12 engine that delivers 626 HP (635 PS / 467 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. It has an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, weighs around 5,500 pounds (2.5 tons), needs 3.8 seconds to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill and reaches a maximum speed of 207 mph (333 km/h).

The S8 can be bought from £100,000 ($127,410) in Great Britain and is approximately 440 lbs (200 kg) lighter than the Bentley. It is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 563 HP (571 PS / 420 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm), directed to the quattro all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed tiptronic transmission. This enables a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration of under 4 seconds and a top speed that’s electronically restricted to 155 mph (250 km/h).

The two limos raced each other both from a standing and a rolling start, in Comfort and Sport driving modes, and also performed a brake test. So, which one do you think came out on top?

1927 Bentley 4½ Litre ‘Blower’ Will Blow Your Lego-Obsessed Mind

Written by admin

The 1927-1931 4½-Litre Bentley ‘Blower’ is one of the brand’s most iconic cars of all time and quite possibly the most recognizable racing car ever to wear the winged B badge.

For these reasons alone, the ‘Blower’ deserves to have its own Lego set, but if you’re not convinced, maybe this independent effort from BC Art will get your vote. Posted on the Lego Ideas page, the project has racked up 5,676 endorsements so far with 280 days left before voting is closed.

To be officially picked up by Lego, an independent set like this one must get 10,000 supporters. This looks totally doable considering that the project was submitted in April.

Combining Lego bricks and Technic, the Bentley Blower set features two shades of green – a dark racing green for the chassis, fuel tank, wheels and bonnet and a camouflage green for the car body. It features a working steering function that mimics the real mechanism on the car, a removable bonnet that reveals the supercharged engine and steering column, as well as a spare wheel and small storage box.

We really like the attention to detail of the creator, who also fitted tilted front wheels for a positive camber as was the norm in the era. Remarkably, the rear differential is linked to the engine, meaning the crankshaft will turn when the car if pushed along.

The project was started in August 2018 and took around eight months of on and off progress to complete. The author says he spent countless hours redesigning every part over and over again until everything was spot on. The finished item speaks for itself, so if you like it, go to the Lego Ideas page and hit the ‘Support’ button.

Bentley Recalls Three Continental GTs Whose Sunroof Glass Panel Might Fly Off

Written by admin

Bentley has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a recall conducted in North America on certain units of the 2020 Continental GT.

According to the information posted by the safety agency, there is an issue with the factory-installed sunroof, which may have not been properly bonded to the vehicle body. As a result, occupants could experience excessive wind noise and water leaks. In some cases, the entire glass panel could separate from the vehicle, becoming a hazard to other motorists and pedestrians.

The problem, which affects only three cars made between December 16, 2019, and February 3, 2020, was discovered recently during a routine check and is blamed on the adhesive bond that does not meet the required specification. The result was presented to the pre-Product Safety Committee in early April and the decision to announce the recall was taken at the end of May. One week later, the NHTSA was informed on the action.

Bentley noted that dealers will be notified on June 10, whereas owners will hear from the automaker on the 15th. Subsequently to scheduling an appointment with an authorized dealership, technicians will remove the old sunroof glass assembly and install a new one, “using the approved bonding products and procedure”. All work will be carried out free of charge, and those who have already fixed the issue on their own will not be reimbursed, as the vehicles are still covered by the warranty. The recall is expected to commence on June 15.
