The New Bentley Continental GT Speed Will Happily Drift On Demand

Written by admin

Bentley has invited UK media for a first go in their new Continental GT Speed at Silverstone, releasing at the same time all the technical details of the “most dynamic road-going Bentley ever made” and a new image gallery.

In addition to packing more firepower, the new Continental GT Speed is the first to feature a rear-steering system, as well as the first Bentley with a rear electronically-controlled limited-slip differential.

The result, according to Bentley, is not only a more agile super GT but one that can actually drift itself out of a corner. The newly calibrated Sport drive mode limits the available to the front axle to 28 percent and almost shuts off the counter-oversteer torque applied in the Comfort and Bentley drive modes.

In addition, the new Continental GT Speed can be optioned with the largest car brakes in the world, featuring 440 mm carbon discs at the front with giant 10-piston calipers. Bentley says that their latest-generation carbon brakes save 77 lbs (35 kg) of unsprung mass and are exceptionally fade resistant.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find Bentley’s familiar twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine, which has been upgraded to 650 HP (659 PS), up from the regular model’s 626 HP (635 PS). Torque remains the same, rated at a colossal 664 lb-ft (900 Nm). Moreover, the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission can change gears in half the time of the standard Conti GT when in Sport mode.

As a result, the new Continental GT Speed can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds) and reach a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h).

The Grand Tour Drops First Trailer Of Madagascar Special, Debuts On December 18

Written by admin

It’s been a long time since we saw the three presenters taking part in another four-wheeled adventure but this is about to change as The Grand Tour has dropped the first trailer of the Madagascar special, called ‘A Massive Hunt’.

The special episode will air on Amazon Prime Video on December 18, featuring Jeremy, James, and Richard driving hilariously modified vehicles on the East African island for “treasure hunting” purposes.

In true TGT fashion, the cars are far from ideal for the chosen terrain: Clarkson has an old Bentley Continental GT, May is behind the wheel of a Caterham and Hammond drives a Ford Focus RS.

The trailer reveals that all three cars started this Madagascar adventure in their factory form, only to be subjected to some serious modding in a bid to make them a bit more off-road-friendly.

Perhaps the most impressive car here is that Focus RS, which gained a set of wheel-driven tracks and a snorkel kit. Clarkson’s modified Bentley Conti GT also reminded us of that weird off-road build we showed you back in 2017, but the car here looks extra spicy with its double snorkels poking from the fenders. The funniest car is without a doubt that Caterham, which looks like it gained a pair of tractor wheels in the back.

The official description of the new TGT special reads: “Armed with three sports cars, Richard, James and Jeremy believe they are in for a cushy road trip and fun escapades as they arrive in Reunion and race on the world’s most expensive piece of tarmac, a jaw dropping ring road built out in the sea. But a bizarre challenge from Mr Wilman propels them across the ocean to Madagascar, where they must tackle the toughest road in the world, in some of the most extremely modded cars they have ever built, in order to complete one of their toughest quests to date.”

Bentley Recalls Three Continental GTs Whose Sunroof Glass Panel Might Fly Off

Written by admin

Bentley has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a recall conducted in North America on certain units of the 2020 Continental GT.

According to the information posted by the safety agency, there is an issue with the factory-installed sunroof, which may have not been properly bonded to the vehicle body. As a result, occupants could experience excessive wind noise and water leaks. In some cases, the entire glass panel could separate from the vehicle, becoming a hazard to other motorists and pedestrians.

The problem, which affects only three cars made between December 16, 2019, and February 3, 2020, was discovered recently during a routine check and is blamed on the adhesive bond that does not meet the required specification. The result was presented to the pre-Product Safety Committee in early April and the decision to announce the recall was taken at the end of May. One week later, the NHTSA was informed on the action.

Bentley noted that dealers will be notified on June 10, whereas owners will hear from the automaker on the 15th. Subsequently to scheduling an appointment with an authorized dealership, technicians will remove the old sunroof glass assembly and install a new one, “using the approved bonding products and procedure”. All work will be carried out free of charge, and those who have already fixed the issue on their own will not be reimbursed, as the vehicles are still covered by the warranty. The recall is expected to commence on June 15.
