Bugatti Veyron Driven Into A Lake In 2009 Is Finally Being Rebuilt

Written by admin

In 2009, dramatic footage hit the web capturing the moment a Bugatti Veyron was driven into a saltwater lake in Texas. Now, some 12 years later, the car is finally being brought back to life.

Shortly after the crash, it was revealed that the whole thing was an insurance scam on the part of the owner, Andy House, who claimed he was trying to avoid a low-flying pelican. This was proven to be false and in 2015, House was sentenced to one year and one day in a federal prison for the scam.

Fast forward to 2019 and Ed Bolian was tempted to purchase the damaged Veyron after it hit the market for $300,000 but he ultimately passed up on the opportunity. In a new video shared to his VinWiki channel on YouTube, Bolian reveals that the car was ultimately purchased by a man named Houston Crosta who works at Royalty Exotic Cars in Nevada.

Crosta is a keen Bugatti enthusiast and has owned a couple of examples in the past, including one modified by Mansory and one that he converted to rear-wheel drive. He also stocks a number of used Bugatti parts and is using them and his expertise to bring the French hypercar back to life.

Bolian reveals that Houston paid $400,000 for the car and has had it repainted purple. He has also paid $250,000 sourcing genuine parts from Bugatti, including a brand new wiring harness. Repairs on the car are ongoing and there are still a few things, such as the Burmester sound system that is completely wrecked and will cost $100,000 to repair, that need to be fixed before the Veyron is finally ready.

QOTD: What Do You Want To See In Bugatti’s Future After Rimac Partnership?

Written by admin

After months of ‘will they or won’t they,’ Bugatti and Rimac made their relationship official as the two companies announced plans for a joint venture.

This opens up an assortment of exciting new possibilities for Bugatti and it appears the two companies are already laying the foundation for an eco-friendly future, which will see an expanded lineup that includes hybrids and electric vehicles.

While details are elusive, that brings us to our question of the day: what do you want to see in Bugatti’s future?

There’s no debating the Veyron and Chiron are impressive, but I’m hoping Bugatti will spice things up a bit more often under the watchful eye of Rimac. The Veyron stuck around for nearly a decade and spawned a ridiculous number of special editions, which didn’t feel terribly special for the most part.

Thankfully, it changed course with the Chiron as it has spawned the Divo, the Centodieci and the La Voiture Noire. Each of these feels distinctive, rather than iterative. Hopefully this trend will continue in the future as a marque as exclusive as Bugatti deserves an air of excitement.

Of course, the most interesting aspect of Bugatti’s future is an expanded lineup. The company hinted at this possibility with the Galibier concept and the automaker intended to put it into production. However, reports have indicated it was a case of “too many cooks in the kitchen” as executives and consumers demanded “far-reaching visual modifications” that are said to have added an extra 60 inches (1,524 mm) to the vehicle.

The resulting car was slammed by Bugatti Design Director Achim Anscheidt, who said the “uber Rolls-Royce Phantom” was a “patchwork of overly ambitious and conflicting Excel sheet demands” that was “bound to fail.” The monstrosity was mercifully killed before reaching production and sullying Bugatti’s name.

Despite that close call, it will be interesting to see if Bugatti decides to take another stab at a Royale successor. That being said, what would you like to see from the brand?

Ex Bugatti Design Intern Reveals Vision GT Successor, Shares How A Little Luck Landed Him A Career

Written by admin

Five years ago, Andries van Overbeeke created some futuristic renderings of Formula 1 race cars and posted them online.

They received a lot of attention and we covered them that summer. Thanks to the publicity and the quality of the renderings, Overbeeke was offered an internship at Bugatti.

While the internship occurred in 2015, Overbeeke has finally revealed what he was working on at the time. As he explained to Carscoops, the model is a successor to the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo aimed to be raced in PlayStation’s Gran Turismo and which draws inspiration from the Type 35 which is billed as the “most successful race car in history.” Five years later, Bugatti has allowed Overbeeke to share his work with the world.

The Bugatti Vision GT successor project was executed under the guardianship of Achim Anscheidt – Head of Design, Sasha Selipanov (check out one of his studies here) – Head of Exterior Design Creative Development, Etienne Salomé – Head of Interior Design and Frank Heyl – Head of Exterior Design Production Development.

As you can see, the model is an aggressive race car that features a jet-like canopy and a minimalist horseshoe grille. The car also has a plethora of front splitters and partially enclosed wheels which help to minimize drag.

Moving further back, there’s a slender cockpit which is flanked by two massive air intakes. The model also has a protruding carbon fiber floor, exposed carbon fiber supports and a stylish rear wing. Other notable highlights include a minimalist rear fin, a massive exhaust tip and a carbon fiber diffuser.

What is Overbeeke up to now?

Since his internship at Bugatti, Overbeeke has been keeping busy as aside from working at Genesis as an exterior designer at their Global Advanced Design studio in Frankfurt, Germany, he’s been involved in a number of different projects ranging from race cars to movie cars. While a number of these projects are confidential, he’s had a hand in designing the Dendrobium hypercar and the all-new Batmobile which will appear in The Batman which is due out next year.

You can check out his other work on Instagram and Behance.
