Mega Hatch Combat: BMW M2 CS Vs. Audi RS3 Vs. Mercedes-AMG A45 S

Written by admin

While new electric vehicles are coming thick and fast, there are still heaps of driver-focused ICE performance cars on the market and they come in all shapes and sizes. In the compact category, for instance, you can get your kicks by choosing the BMW M2 CS, the Audi RS3, or the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S.

Sure, these cars are out of the price range of many people, but they all deliver excellent performance. CarWow recently pitted them against each other to see which is the quickest.

As standard, it is the M2 CS that has the advantage over the other two. Its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six is good for 444 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque and is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the rear wheels.

The Mercedes-AMG A45 S has the smallest engine of the bunch, in the form of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 415 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. It is also all-wheel drive and has an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

As for the Audi RS3 tested, it is actually a 2016 model and has been equipped with some modifications so it now produces 450 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.

Off the line, it comes as no surprise that the all-wheel drive Audi and Mercedes-AMG have the advantage. However, as the speeds start to increase, the BMW claws its way back and speeds past the Mercedes-AMG and is only narrowly defeated by the tuned Audi, while in a rolling drag race, the M2 CS easily defeated both the RS3 and the A 45 S.

2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Makes Spy Debut With Two Wheel Designs

Written by admin

This marks the first time we’ve ever seen the all-new 2022 Mercedes SL in flagship AMG guise undergoing tests, and as expected, it was the hexagonal quad-pipes that gave it away.

Otherwise, this prototype looks pretty much the same as other previously-seen camouflaged all-new SL models. The only things that are different, aside from the pipes, is the camouflage pattern on the roof and the wheels.

In fact, this prototype is testing with two different wheel designs. The ones at the rear feature a 5-single spoke aesthetic, while the front wheels boast a 5-dual spoke look.

This next iteration of the SL will feature the same platform as the Mercedes-AMG GT, something AMG boss Tobias Moers already confirmed.

“We’re bringing back the historic DNA of the SL,” he said last year. “It’s far sportier [this time around]. It will have a perfect compromise between driving dynamics and comfort, because it’s still kind of a cruiser too.”

Aside from the common architecture, the SL and GT are also expected to share axle assemblies, suspensions, steering systems, the 48V electric architecture and hybrid powertrains. Both will be built alongside each other at the German carmaker’s plant in Sindelfingen, Germany.

Meanwhile, a source told Autocar that the new SL was designed to feature a longer hood and a more rearward-positioned cabin.

“The new platform has given us more freedom,” said the source. “There’s more distance between the front axle and the front firewall. This gives it more traditional proportions.”

The range could kick off with an SL 450 EQ Boost variant, followed by an SL 53, SL 500 and SL 63 / 63 S (two stages of tune). The latter is rumored to have a 604 HP twin-turbo V8, although no specs have been made official as of yet.

Mercedes-AMG Cars Now More Road Trip Friendly Thanks To New Roof Box

Written by admin

Traveling long distances with your Mercedes-AMG car has just become easier thanks to the introduction of the roof box, tested by AMG engineers to ensure optimum values in terms of aerodynamics, handling and noise emission.

Buyers can purchase the roof box, which has a capacity of 410 liters (14.5 cu.ft), starting this year in November at Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG partners.

The lid of the box boasts a dynamic design and is painted comet-grey magno with lateral decoration lines, while a shiny black element, including a fin, is embedded on the top. Additionally, the handles (integrated into the lid design) help reduce air resistance.

The Mercedes-AMG roof box actually comes in two versions, the second being developed specifically for Mercedes coupe vehicles. It features a different diffuser shape, adapted to the sporty design of a coupe model.

The German carmaker stresses that the roof box is suitable for everyday use, thanks in part to its durable and hard-wearing plastic which can easily withstand any weather condition. The box can actually be mounted on all Mercedes cars with base-railing carriers, using the quick-release clamping system – although since it’s AMG-branded, fitting it onto some entry level diesel-powered C-Class Wagon might be a bit over the top. An E 63 on the other hand will definitely “do”.

You can also open it from both sides, making loading “easy and balanced,” and fill it with up to 70 kg’s (154 lbs) worth of gear. The box itself weighs 26 kg (57 lbs).

The Mercedes-AMG roof box is approved to the legal speed limit of 130 km/h (80 mph).
