Mercedes-AMG Cars Now More Road Trip Friendly Thanks To New Roof Box

Written by admin

Traveling long distances with your Mercedes-AMG car has just become easier thanks to the introduction of the roof box, tested by AMG engineers to ensure optimum values in terms of aerodynamics, handling and noise emission.

Buyers can purchase the roof box, which has a capacity of 410 liters (14.5 cu.ft), starting this year in November at Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG partners.

The lid of the box boasts a dynamic design and is painted comet-grey magno with lateral decoration lines, while a shiny black element, including a fin, is embedded on the top. Additionally, the handles (integrated into the lid design) help reduce air resistance.

The Mercedes-AMG roof box actually comes in two versions, the second being developed specifically for Mercedes coupe vehicles. It features a different diffuser shape, adapted to the sporty design of a coupe model.

The German carmaker stresses that the roof box is suitable for everyday use, thanks in part to its durable and hard-wearing plastic which can easily withstand any weather condition. The box can actually be mounted on all Mercedes cars with base-railing carriers, using the quick-release clamping system – although since it’s AMG-branded, fitting it onto some entry level diesel-powered C-Class Wagon might be a bit over the top. An E 63 on the other hand will definitely “do”.

You can also open it from both sides, making loading “easy and balanced,” and fill it with up to 70 kg’s (154 lbs) worth of gear. The box itself weighs 26 kg (57 lbs).

The Mercedes-AMG roof box is approved to the legal speed limit of 130 km/h (80 mph).
