First Official Look Inside Kia’s New K8 Sedan That We Won’t Be Getting In America

Written by admin

Just a couple of days after images of the new K8’s interior design leaked, Kia has just stepped forward releasing two high quality images of the car’s cockpit and detailing some of its novelties.

The center piece is the massive curved display, mounted on top of the two-layer dashboard, which incorporates the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, each one measuring 12 inches in diagonal.

The HVAC control is touchpad-operated, further reducing the number of physical buttons inside, and to the left, we can see a three-spoke steering wheel with Kia’s new logo in the middle. The center console hosts the shift-by-wire transmission dial, next to the drive-mode selector, two cup holders and a small cubby for extra storage. The buttons for the heated seats and steering wheel were placed in front of the center armrest.

A 14-speaker premium sound system by Meridian is included in the new K8, in a premiere for Kia. The car also features ambient lighting, wood surfaces inspired by modern yachts, high-quality metal trim and Nappa leather upholstery with a diamond pattern on the seats and door cards.

“The K8 is a modern sedan with a dynamic exterior that is matched by its progressive and elegant interior”, said the brand’s chief of global design and senior vice president, Karim Habib. “This car – our first since our new company rebranding – puts us on the path forward as we look to realize our future goals.”

Replacing the K7 / Cadenza, the K8 won’t launch in the United States, CarScoops has learned, as sedans are not that popular anymore, so Kia will focus on crossovers and SUVs instead, because that’s where the money is these days.

Full details on the K8 will be announced later this year, but in the meantime, you can take check out its new design here.

2021 Mazda3, CX-30 Get Updated Mild-Hybrid 2.0L Engine Known As The e-SkyActiv X

Written by admin

Mazda has upgraded its 2.0-liter engine, giving it more power and torque, improving the carbon dioxide emissions and fuel economy, and renaming it the e-SkyActiv X.

Debuting in the 2021 Mazda3 and CX-30, it features a lower compression ratio from 16.3:1 to 15.0:1, optimized combustion control, modified pistons and intake camshaft, and updated mild-hybrid system software.

With these changes, the Japanese automaker says the e-SkyActiv X develops 186 PS (183 HP / 137 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm. This represents an increase of 6 PS (6 HP / 4 kW) and 16 Nm (12 lb-ft) respectively over the previous version of the 2.0-liter unit, as well as reduced CO2 emissions by 5 to 11 g/km depending on the model, transmission and trim level.

A 2.4 mpg UK improvement and 11 g/km of CO2 less have been listed in the AWD GT Sport CX-30 packing this powertrain, whereas the entry-level manual gearbox SE-L Lux model is 2.5 mpg UK more fuel efficient and 6 g/km of CO2 cleaner. Besides the SE-L Lux and GT Sport, the e-SkyActiv X powertrain is available for the Sport Lux and GT Tech versions of the CX-30 with optional automatic transmission and available AWD from the GT Sport upwards.

Set to arrive at dealers across the Britain this month, the 2021 CX-30 will be joined by the 2021 Mazda3 from April 1, and it too sees the introduction of the e-SkyActiv X engine, benefiting from CO2 reductions of 5-11 g/km, in addition to the same improvements in output and torque. The four-cylinder will be available in the SE-L Lux, Sport Lux, GT Sport and GT Sport Tech grades of the hatchback and sedan, with standard automatic gearbox on all save for the entry-level model.

Besides the introduction of the upgraded power unit, the 2021 Mazda3 gets a standard sunroof in the Sport Lux, GT Sport and GT Sport Tech e-SkyActiv X variants.

On a related note, the 2.0-liter SkyActiv G has been renamed as the e-SkyActiv G. It produces 122 PS (120 HP / 90 kW) emits up to 7-8 g/km of CO2 less in the 2021 CX-30, where it is available in the SE-L, SE-L Lux, Sport Lux, GT Sport and GT Sport Tech, with FWD and optional automatic transmission on all bar the base spec. The 2021 Mazda3 also gets the same e-SkyActiv G in the SE-L, SE-L Lux, Sport Lux, GT Sport and GT Sport Tech, with an optional automatic gearbox offered across range, save for the SE-L.

2021 Ford S-Max, Galaxy Go Hybrid In Europe With 187 HP Powertrain

Written by admin

Following last year’s announcement, Ford has launched the new S-Max Hybrid and Galaxy Hybrid in Europe.

The two MPVs pack the same powertrain as the Kuga Hybrid, namely a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine mated to the brand’s latest-gen power-split transmission, an electric motor and a 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows them to drive on zero emissions for short periods of time.

The self-charging powertrain puts out 190 PS (187 HP / 140 kW) for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration of 9.8 seconds, 0.7 seconds slower than the Kuga Hybrid, and is backed up by regenerative braking that recovers up to 90 percent of the energy normally lost during deceleration.

On the WLTP cycle, the S-Max Hybrid delivers 6.4 l/100 km (44.1 mpg UK / 36.8 mpg US) and emits 146-147 g/km of CO2. It has a total towing capacity of 1,750 kg (3,858 lbs) in the five-seat variant, and 1,560 kg (3,439 lbs) as a seven-seater. The Galaxy Hybrid returns 6.4-6.5 l/100 km (44.1-43.5 mpg UK / 36.8-36.2 mpg US), emits 148-149 g/km of CO2, and does the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 10.0 seconds.

As the battery is positioned under the boot floor by rerouting the exhaust system, the S-Max Hybrid offers up to 2,200 liters (77.7 cu-ft) of cargo capacity with all seats folded down, and 285 liters (10 cu-ft) behind the third row. It can haul objects up to almost 1 meter (39 in) tall and more than 1 meter (39 in) wide between the rear wheel housings. The Galaxy Hybrid has a load volume of 2,339 liters (82.6 cu-ft) behind the first row and 300 liters (10.6 cu-ft) with all seats in place.

Both the S-Max and Galaxy hybrids have special interfaces in the available 10-inch digital instrument cluster, standard FordPass Connect modem, remote door lock/unlock, vehicle status and locator, electrically adjustable front seats for the Trend and Titanium trim levels with heating/cooling and massage functions in the Vignale, and optional electric tailgate.

The two hybrid MPVs are put together at Ford’s Valencia plant in Spain.

Production Nissan Z Coupe Revealed By Patent Office And It’s Nearly Identical To Z Proto Concept

Written by admin

Nissan unveiled the Z Proto last fall and now the trademark office in Australia has revealed the production model in a series of patent photos.

Looking virtually identical to the concept, the road-going model has a slightly revised grille with a sensor unit tucked between two horizontal accents.

Additional changes are limited, but the production model has a rear lock and reflectors behind the rear wheels. The liftgate also looks different, but this appears to be an optical illusion as the Z Proto had a black roof which visually expanded the glass area.

The changes are pretty minor and mean the production model will remain almost identical to the Z Proto. That’s a good thing as the concept was well-received.

Given the similarities between the exteriors, it’s likely the interior will mirror the concept as well. This means we can expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a modern infotainment system and gauge pods on the dashboard.

Nissan has been tight-lipped about performance specifications, but the Z Proto featured a twin-turbo V6 that was connected to six-speed manual transmission. It’s expected to carryover from the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400, where the engine develops 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque.

That remains unconfirmed, but Nissan has already hinted the next Z will have more power than its predecessor. As a reminder, the current 370Z has a 3.7-liter V6 that produces 332 hp (248 kW / 337 PS) and 270 lb-ft (366 Nm) of torque. The 370Z Nismo kicks that up to 350 hp (261 kW / 355 PS) and 276 lb-ft (374 Nm).

2021 Nissan Kicks And Armada Go Official At 11:00 AM ET, Watch The Live Presentation Here

Written by admin

Having been teased a couple of times, America’s 2021 Nissan Kicks and Armada are about to make their official debut, with the presentation starting today at 11:00 a.m. ET (5:00 p.m. CET).

Expected to mirror the looks of the international facelifted variant, the facelifted Nissan Kicks should feature a larger grille upfront, slender headlamps, and a slightly revised cockpit.

An electrified powertrain is expected under the bonnet, pairing a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline range extender and an electric motor that’s juiced up by a 1.57 kWh lithium-ion battery in international markets for a combined 127 HP and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque. While this powertrain probably won’t make its way across the pond, we might be looking at the same 1.6-liter unit over here, which is rated at 122 HP and 114 lb-ft (155 Nm) in the outgoing iteration.

Joining the 2021 Kicks will be the facelifted Armada. Believed to be similar in terms of styling to the facelifted Patrol, it is understood to premiere with an updated grille and C-shaped headlamps, as well as new LED taillights and bumpers.

The cabin of the body-on-frame SUV might feature higher quality materials and more technology gizmos, such as the dual-screen set-up in the center console like the latest Patrol.

We don’t know anything about the engine family yet, but we are about to find out what will power the 2021 Armada. As a reminder, the outgoing model is offered with a 390 HP and 394 lb-ft (533 Nm) 5.6-liter V8, which works in concert with a seven-speed automatic transmission and optional four-wheel drive.

Zagato’s First Customer-Delivered Iso Rivolta GTZ Looks Fantastic In Monza Green

Written by admin

Milan-based design house and coachbuilder Zagato has delivered the very first Iso Rivolta GTZ.

The coachbuilt sports car draws inspiration from the iconic Iso Rivolta A3 unveiled in 1963. That car became a sporting icon by winning its class twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964 and 1965, as well as a lifestyle icon in the “berlinetta stradale” version.

The A3’s elegant, flowing styling went on to influence some of the most beautiful and significant models of the following years, including the 1966 Lamborghini Miura and the 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale.

The modern-day Iso Rivolta GTZ is an attempt to bring that classic design into the 21st century by adopting a neoclassical approach. The bodywork consists of just two main elements made of carbon fiber to keep the weight down and ensure a sculptural, uninterrupted design.

The GTZ also continues Iso’s tradition of combining Italian styling with American powertrains, as it is powered by a stock Corvette Z06 engine. That would be the 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V8 that’s rated at 660 PS (651 HP) and 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque.

As a result, the Iso Rivolta GTZ is a mighty fast machine, accelerating from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds and hitting a top speed of 315 km/h (195 mph). Zagato doesn’t provide details about the transmission, but the C7 Corvette Z06 offered the choice of a 7-speed Tremec TR-6070 manual or 8-speed GM 8L90 automatic. The gear knob is visible in one of the photos and it looks like the auto to us.

Targeting passionate car collectors, the GTZ is limited to just 19 examples. The first unit you see here, finished in Monza Green, has been delivered in Lucerne, Switzerland. So far, 9 units have already been ordered with 10 still up for grabs.

Of Course China Gets A 2021 Audi Q5L Sportback LWB Variant

Written by admin

With Audi choosing the 2020 Beijing Auto Show for the world debut of the Q5 Sportback, it was inevitable that the stand also included a market-specific variant.

That would be the Q5L Sportback long-wheelbase model, a China-exclusive variant built locally by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. Based on the existing Q5L SUV, the Q5L Sportback has a 2,908-mm (114.5-in) wheelbase – 89-mm (3.5-in) longer than the global model.

Overall, it measures 4,778 mm (188.1 in) in length, 1,892 mm (74.5 in) in width, and 1,666 mm (65.6 in) in height. Visually, the stretched wheelbase is easy to notice when looking at the longer rear doors, which give the Q5L Sportback a more flowing profile than the standard car.

The extended wheelbase also contributes to a roomier interior for rear seat passengers, especially when it comes to knee room and legroom. We imagine headroom also stands to gain a little bit since the roofline is slightly less sloping towards the back.

Elsewhere, the Audi Q5L Sportback looks identical to the global model. Mind you, the engine lineup is tailored for the Chinese market and includes only two turbocharged gasoline units labeled the 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI. Both have a 2.0-liter displacement and produce 187 PS (184 HP) and 220 PS (217 PS), respectively. There’s no mention of an SQ5L Sportback performance model and it’s unlikely to happen, since the SQ5 SUV is not available in long-wheelbase guise.

FAW-Volkswagen will build the Q5L Sportback at its plant in Changchun, China, with the market launch expected in the first quarter of next year. Prices will be announced closer to the model’s debut in China.

Buick Velite 7 Electric SUV Previewed In China, Could Herald America’s Chevy Bolt EUV

Written by admin

Buick has provided a first official glimpse into the Velite 7, its first all-electric SUV which will launch in China later this year.

Joining the likes of the Velite 5 extended range and Velite 6 and Velite 6 Plus electric vehicles, it is believed to be based on the Chevrolet Bolt. While the Velite 7 is a China-only affair, a Chevy-rebadged derivative should find its way to the United States eventually.

A modular lithium-ion battery, with an optimized design and improved cell chemistry, powers the Velite 7’s zero-emission propulsion system.

The Buick Velite 7 features a liquid-cooling battery thermal management system, which is said to meet General Motors’ global standards for safety and reliability. More importantly, it promises a range of up to 310 miles (500 km), albeit under the very optimistic NEDC test cycle. This will likely drop to around 200 miles (320 km) in the real world.

“Buick is strengthening its EV lineup with an all-new entry for today’s consumers, giving them the functionality of an SUV and the confidence to go farther with an impressive 500 kilometers of range”, commented the executive director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM, Molly Peck. “We topped it off with a suite of leading technologies to meet the needs of progressive and eco-minded Chinese drivers.”

Further details will be announced closer to the electric SUV’s launch, but previous reports have indicated the Velite 7 is 167.9 inches (4,264 mm) long and has a 105.3-inch (2,675-mm) wheelbase. The electric motor allegedly develops 174 horsepower, but America’s variant, which will be dubbed the Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle), is expected with more than 200 HP.

Facelifted Hyundai i30 Entering Production At Czech Plant On May 25

Written by admin

The facelifted Hyundai i30 will enter production on May 25 at the carmaker’s plant in Nošovice, the Czech Republic.

It will be a pretty big deal for Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC), as the previous-generation i30 was the first vehicle ever built at the Nošovice plant when mass production started in November 2008. The i30 compact hatchback was the first Hyundai car to carry the “i” prefix and proved to be quite successful in Europe, with more than one million units sold on the continent since its launch in 2007.

“The i30 has consistently been one of our most popular cars in Europe. It is truly made for Europe in Europe, starting from the design and development to the final assembly,” said Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe. “The latest model adopts a range of enhancements to make it even more attractive to our customers who are looking for a stylish, safe, reliable car in the C-segment,” the executive added.

For the mid-cycle makeover, the Hyundai i30 remains available in three body styles: Hatchback, Fastback and Wagon. All of them now feature an updated design, new technology, and new powertrains – including a new 48-volt mild hybrid option. In addition, the sporty-looking N Line trim will be available for the first time on the new i30 Wagon (it was previously offered on the Hatchback and Fastback only).

While the exterior design changes are subtle, the facelifted Hyundai i30 gains a tech upgrade inside courtesy of a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 7-inch digital gauge cluster. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility comes standard and wireless phone charging is also present.

The engine lineup has been upgraded as well with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system offered for the entry-level 118 HP (120 PS) 1.0-liter T-GDI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as well as the 134 HP (136 PS) 1.6-liter diesel and 157 HP (159 PS) 1.5-liter T-GDI turbo-four petrol. All engines offer the choice of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch.
